Night Time Ruminations
Working nights... I'm in the middle of a seven day run of working night shifts and tonight I got sent home early (1:30am). Not at all able to sleep, considering I woke up yesterday at 4:00pm, I have found myself wide awake in the lost space and time known as night. The entire house is quiet. I am camped out in front of the fireplace surrounded by what most naturally might be called a mess. Folded stacks of "to be put away" clean laundry, a music stand drowning in long gone years of violin repertoire, Utah Jazz paraphernalia with accompanying basketball shoes size 10.5, a tumbling stack of books "currently reading", a tray of "Jolynn beads" still unstrung, and an ironing board left out from two weeks ago atop which sits my husband's third computer.
In this unique window of solitary night-time I'm witnessing the messing grandeur of life. This Thanksgiving, although I'll probably be sleeping through the family gatherings, I am grateful to be working nights.
