Shameless

Went to Las Vegas last weekend and saw this guy do what he does best. I almost thought it a joke when this dapper cowboy came out on stage in a hoodie, ball cap, and jeans but by the end... if you "didn't love him going in, [you] loved him going out." His concert made me remember why I love good concerts. We sat with the Hansen's and Haili and I could not stop laughing over how each of our husband's were completely entranced. Tonight, I raise my glass to Garth Brooks, thank you for a fabulous evening!

3 Degrees

Came home from work tonight and just as I was about to walk through the garage door into the house, I realized something: My breath has a shadow. What?! It's one thing to see one's breath but to see it's shadow? You know KSL weather isn't lying when they say it's three degrees outside.

Salute to my co-workers...

...who have all been doing this a great deal longer than me.

Night Time Ruminations

Working nights... I'm in the middle of a seven day run of working night shifts and tonight I got sent home early (1:30am). Not at all able to sleep, considering I woke up yesterday at 4:00pm, I have found myself wide awake in the lost space and time known as night. The entire house is quiet. I am camped out in front of the fireplace surrounded by what most naturally might be called a mess. Folded stacks of "to be put away" clean laundry, a music stand drowning in long gone years of violin repertoire, Utah Jazz paraphernalia with accompanying basketball shoes size 10.5, a tumbling stack of books "currently reading", a tray of "Jolynn beads" still unstrung, and an ironing board left out from two weeks ago atop which sits my husband's third computer. In this unique window of solitary night-time I'm witnessing the messing grandeur of life. This Thanksgiving, although I'll probably be sleeping through the family gatherings, I am grateful to be working nights.

Lockdown

Almost there! My days of formal education are numbered and today's lockdown on campus was evidence. I found a chair in the basement of the SWKT (can't get enough of those church acronyms) and vowed not to leave until my last college paper was complete. I semi-succesfully completed my paper and it took me from 11:30 am until 6:00 pm. Pretty sure I'm the world's slowest writer and as pathetic as it sounds my eyes were blood shot! Seriously?! How I ever survived college is a miracle. I have discovered one survival technique when it comes to finals time and end of semester hours... music about Mexico, well, beaches, sun, pina coladas, the like. I throw on the ipod for about 5 minutes just prior to cracking down on the paper. Being done with school work is near the bliss one might find on the beaches of Mexico. Of course my ballad singers are the classics: James Taylor, George Strait, Jack Johnson, Kenny Chesney.
